Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November 2026 and Diwali on Sunday 8 November. Over the next few days, customers will scroll past hundreds of offer banners on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. Most of them blur together: too many words, too many colours, and an offer nobody can understand at a glance.
If your banner can't be understood in two seconds on a phone screen, it won't be understood at all. Here's how to make yours clear.
1. One banner, one offer
Don't put five offers on one banner. If you have a discount on gold coins, a free gift wrap and a combo on utensils, make three banners and post them on different days. Each one gets its own moment.
2. Lead with the benefit
The biggest text on the banner should be the offer itself, written in the customer's language:
- "Free home delivery on Diwali orders"
- "Festive facial combo for two"
- "Extra warranty on all appliances this Dhanteras"
Your logo and shop name should be visible but smaller. People decide whether they care about the offer first, then look at who is offering it.
3. Always show the dates
"Valid 4 to 8 November" is more honest and more persuasive than "Limited period". Clear dates create real urgency and save your staff from arguments at the counter when the offer has ended.
4. Be honest about conditions
If the offer applies only to selected items, a minimum bill or certain timings, say so in a short line at the bottom: "On selected items. T&C apply." Hiding conditions makes customers feel cheated and leads to bad reviews after the festival.
5. Make it readable on a small screen
- Use no more than two fonts.
- Keep the headline short enough to read from arm's length.
- Use strong contrast: dark text on a light background, or light text on a dark one.
- Leave space around the text. Festive patterns look lovely, but they shouldn't sit behind the words.
6. Use real product photos
A real photo of your jewellery, sweets, salon chair or showroom builds more trust than stock images. Customers want to see what they will actually get.
7. Tell people what to do next
End with one clear action: "Visit us in [Area]", "Call to book" or "Order on WhatsApp". Add your address or WhatsApp number in the banner footer if you are sharing it on social media.
If you post the offer on your Google Business Profile, use an Offer post and keep phone numbers out of the image and the text; Google already shows your call button next to the post.
A quick layout that works
- Top: a small festive greeting ("Happy Dhanteras").
- Middle: the offer in large, bold text.
- Below it: a real product photo.
- Bottom strip: dates, conditions, logo, address or WhatsApp.
Common mistakes
- Writing "Up to 70% off" when only one item has that discount.
- Posting the banner on Diwali day itself. Start a few days before.
- Forgetting to post a "last day" reminder.
- Leaving the offer banner up after it has ended.
Clear beats clever. A simple, honest offer banner sells more than a crowded one.
