Dhanteras falls on Friday, 6 November 2026, and Diwali on Sunday, 8 November. If you are planning a festive offer, you will probably share it on WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. But many customers searching for your type of business at this time of year will see your Google Business Profile before any of those. An Offer post puts your festive deal right there.
What an Offer post is
Google Business Profile lets you publish a few types of posts. The main ones are:
- Updates: general news, tips, new arrivals, festival greetings.
- Offers: a promotion with a title, start and end dates, and optional details such as a coupon code, a link and terms and conditions.
- Events: something happening on specific dates, like a workshop, an open day or a health camp.
Offer posts are designed for exactly what most businesses do at Diwali: a time-limited deal.
How to create an Offer post
- Sign in and open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps.
- Choose the option to add a post or update, then choose Offer.
- Add a clear photo, ideally a real image of your product, shop or service.
- Write a short title that says what the offer is.
- Set the start and end dates.
- Add details, a coupon code if you use one, a link to more information, and your terms and conditions.
- Preview and publish.
Write it so customers understand it in seconds
- Be specific. "Festive discount on all gift hampers until Bhai Dooj" is better than "Huge Diwali sale".
- Put the key benefit in the title, and the details in the description.
- State clear terms: which products, which branch, minimum purchase, last date.
- Only promise what you will honour. A customer who walks in with a screenshot expects the offer to be valid.
Mistakes that get posts rejected or ignored
- Phone numbers in the post text or image. Google may reject posts with phone numbers in them. Customers can already call from your profile.
- Images with lots of text, or blurry and stretched images.
- Misleading claims, like "lowest price in the city", that you can't back up.
- Offers for products or services that Google restricts in posts, such as some regulated products. Check Google's content policy for posts if you are unsure.
- Forgetting the end date. Customers keep seeing an offer that has already ended, which leads to frustrated visits.
Ideas for different businesses
- Sweet shops and bakeries: pre-order offers on gift boxes for Dhanteras and Diwali.
- Salons: festive packages for the week before Diwali.
- Gyms: a festive membership offer, with clear terms.
- Clinics: a health camp or check-up day as an Event post, following your professional rules on advertising.
- Electronics and home stores: Dhanteras offers on specific product ranges.
- Coaching centres: an early admission window for the next session.
If you don't have an offer, that's fine. A simple Update post with your festival timings and a greeting is useful too.
Plan the whole festive week
- Late October: post the offer, with an end date after Diwali.
- A few days before Dhanteras: an Update post reminding people of your timings.
- Diwali: a greeting with a real photo of your decorated shop or team.
- After Bhai Dooj: a thank-you post, and remove or let the offer expire.
Remember to set special hours for any days your timings change.
