When someone nearby searches for "dentist near me" or "salon in Sarabha Nagar", Google shows a map with three businesses under it. That box is called the local pack, and the businesses in it get most of the calls, direction requests and website clicks. Everything else is one more tap away, and most people never make that tap.
The good news is that getting into those three spots is not luck. Google says local results are based on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You can't move your shop closer to every customer, but you can work on the other two every week.
1. Make your profile clearly relevant
Relevance is how well your profile matches what the person searched for. Google can only match you if your profile says what you do in plain words.
- Primary category: this is the single most important setting. Choose the most specific one that fits, such as "Dentist" or "Cosmetic dentist", not a broad one like "Health".
- Secondary categories: add the other services you genuinely offer. Don't add categories you don't serve; it confuses Google and customers.
- Services and products: list each service with a short description. These help you show up for more specific searches.
- Business description: write it for people, mention your area and your main services once, and skip keyword stuffing.
2. Build prominence the way Google can see it
Prominence is how well known and trusted your business looks online. Google pulls it from many places, and a few of them are fully in your control:
- Reviews: a steady flow of genuine reviews, with replies from you, is one of the clearest signals of an active, trusted business.
- Photos: real photos of your shop front, team, work and products. Add new ones regularly instead of uploading fifty on day one.
- Posts: offers, updates and events posted to your profile show that someone is looking after it.
- Consistent details: your name, address and phone number should match everywhere: your website, Facebook page, Justdial, IndiaMART and any directory you are listed on.
3. Don't break the basics
A surprising number of profiles lose ranking because of small mistakes:
- Opening hours that are wrong on holidays and festivals.
- Keywords stuffed into the business name. This is against Google's guidelines and can get a profile suspended.
- A phone number that nobody answers, or a WhatsApp number that is different from the one on the profile.
- Two or more profiles for the same location.
4. Be patient and consistent
Most businesses see more profile views within a few weeks of fixing their profile and staying active. Bigger ranking jumps usually take one to three months, depending on how many competitors are nearby and how strong their profiles are. The businesses that win are rarely the ones that do one big push; they are the ones that post, reply and update every single week.
A simple weekly routine
- Publish two to three posts on your profile, or one every day if you can.
- Reply to every new review within a day.
- Add two or three new real photos.
- Check your hours, phone number and holiday timings.
If you don't have time for this routine, that is exactly what our Google Business Profile management service does for you, every day. Book a free 30-minute profile check and we'll show you where you stand against your nearest competitors.
