You may already post short videos on Instagram and WhatsApp Status. But there is another place where a short video can help: your Google Business Profile. When someone finds you on Search or Maps, they are often close to making a decision. A short, real video of your clinic, salon, gym or restaurant can answer the question "What is this place actually like?" faster than any text.
The current limits
Google's help centre currently lists these requirements for Business Profile videos:
- Duration: up to 30 seconds.
- File size: up to 75 MB.
- Resolution: 720p or higher.
Uploaded videos are reviewed against Google's photo and video policies. Anything that breaks them is marked "Not approved" and won't appear on Search or Maps. Google can change these limits, so check the help centre if an upload fails.
What kind of video works on Google
Google wants videos that show the real business. The best ones are simple:
- A walk-through from the entrance to the main area, so first-time visitors know what to expect.
- Your team at work, with permission from everyone who appears.
- A product or dish being prepared or packed.
- A short tour of equipment: a gym floor, a dental chair, a salon station, a classroom.
- The outside of your building and how to find the entrance, which is very useful in busy markets.
What to avoid
- Promotional slideshows made only of text and stock clips. These are better suited to social media.
- Videos of customers or patients without their clear permission. Be especially careful in clinics.
- Phone numbers, offers and long text written across the screen.
- Heavy filters or footage that makes the place look different from reality.
- Copyrighted music added from other sources.
How to upload
- Sign in to the Google account that manages your Business Profile.
- Open your profile on Google Search or Maps.
- Choose the option to add photos and videos.
- Pick your video file from your phone or computer and upload it.
- Check back after a while to see whether it has been approved.
If your video is longer than 30 seconds, trim it on your phone before uploading. Most phones have a built-in trim tool in the gallery app.
Shooting tips
- Shoot in good daylight, with lights on inside.
- Move slowly and keep the phone steady. Hold it with both hands, or rest your elbows against your body.
- Tidy up before you film. Clear the counter, switch off the TV, straighten the chairs.
- Film several short clips rather than one long one, so you have options.
- Vertical works well on phones, where most people view your profile.
How often to add videos
There is no fixed rule. A sensible routine is to add a fresh video whenever something changes, such as new interiors, new equipment or a new service, and a few times during busy seasons like festivals. Combine this with regular photos and posts so your profile always shows something recent.
Reuse what you already have
If you already shoot Reels, you may have clips that work for Google too. Choose ones that show your actual premises and team, trim them to under 30 seconds, and remove any music or text overlays that don't belong.
