Free Google Business Profile Checker: Find What's Holding Your Profile Back

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees before they call, visit or ask for directions. Small gaps can quietly cost you those customers: missing hours, a wrong website link, too few photos or reviews that stopped coming in months ago. The trouble is, it's hard to spot these gaps on your own profile, because you're so used to seeing it.

That's why we built a free tool: the Google Business Profile Checker. Paste your profile link, click Check profile, and in about 15 seconds you get a plain-English list of what's working and what could be better.

What the checker looks at

The checker reads the public information Google shows for your business, using Google's official data, and reviews it the way a careful customer (and a local SEO specialist) would:

  • The basics: business name, main category, address or service area, phone number, website and opening hours, including holiday hours for the coming week.
  • Business status: whether Google shows you as open, temporarily closed or permanently closed.
  • Your name: whether it contains extra keywords such as "best", "near me" or the city name, which can break Google's guidelines.
  • Photos: how many Google shows, and whether you've uploaded your own or customers' photos are doing all the work.
  • Reviews: your rating, how many reviews you have, how recent the newest visible review is, and how your review count compares with similar businesses nearby.
  • Details (attributes): things like payment methods, accessibility and parking.
  • Your website: whether the link works, is secure (https), fits on a phone screen, and shows the same business name and phone number as your profile.

What you get back

Every finding tells you four things in simple language:

  1. What we saw on your profile.
  2. Why it matters for customers and for showing up in local searches.
  3. What to do, as a specific next step.
  4. How urgent it is: high, medium or low priority.

Findings are grouped by priority, so you know where to start. Each one is also marked Confirmed (seen directly in Google's data) or Estimate (based on partial information, so worth double-checking). You'll also see a short list of things that are already in good shape.

What it can't see (and why we tell you)

Google doesn't share everything publicly. Your owner-written description, services and products, posts, replies to reviews and additional categories aren't available to outside tools. Rather than guess, the checker lists these under Check these yourself, with a short note on what to look for when you sign in to your Business Profile.

If you'd like help with those, our guides on common Business Profile mistakes and choosing the right categories are a good place to start.

How to use it in 3 steps

  1. Open Google Maps and search for your business.
  2. Tap your business, then tap Share and Copy link.
  3. Paste the link into the checker and click Check profile.

It's free and there's no sign-up. You don't need to enter your phone number or email address. You can also check a competitor's profile to see how they compare.

Common things the checker finds

  • No holiday hours set before festivals like Diwali, which leads to wasted trips and unhappy reviews.
  • Too few photos, or only customer photos, so the first impression isn't in your control. See our photo guide.
  • Fewer reviews than nearby competitors, or no new reviews for months. Our guide on getting more Google reviews the right way can help.
  • A website that doesn't match the profile, for example a different phone number on the site.
  • Keywords stuffed into the business name, which risks edits or even a suspended profile.

An honest word about rankings

No tool can promise you the number one spot on Google Maps, and neither can we. Google decides local rankings using many factors, including how close the searcher is to your business, how well your profile matches what they searched for, and how well known your business is. The checker can only judge the information Google makes public.

What a complete, accurate and active profile does do is give you the best chance to show up, and make customers more likely to choose you when you do.

Check your profile once a month. It takes less than a minute, and it's the easiest way to catch problems before your customers do.
